Meet the Swedish Teachers
All our teachers have a university education in teaching Swedish or Swedish as a second/foreign language. They also have several years of professional experience of teaching Swedish as a foreign language and enjoy teaching on all levels. Our youngest student was 12 years old and our oldest 75.
All the teachers have a personal experience of living in bilingual families, as well as of living abroad and can give you valuable cultural guidance when you’re new in Sweden or planning to move there. Our teachers always work hard to create a friendly learning atmosphere, so you can relax and get the most out of your lessons.

Sara Hörberg - from Uppsala
Sara has a master’s degree in teaching Swedish as a Second Language, and founded The Swedish Teacher in 2009, after nearly 10 years at Folkuniversitetet.
Sara studied Linguistics, Swedish as Second Language (svenska som andraspråk), and Pedagogy at Uppsala University. After teaching Swedish at Folkuniversitetet for nearly ten years, Sara founded The Swedish Teacher in 2009. She writes the feature blogs “The Swedish Teacher” for The Local Sweden, and Lär dig svenska for Swedish Press.
Sara is a native speaker from Uppsala, Sweden. She started teaching Swedish as Second Language in 2001 and specializes in custom design lesson plans for one-to-one students. Sara has taught Swedish to students at Uppsala University Hospital, Uppsala University, Vattenfall – Forsmarks kraftverk, IBM, Fresenius Kabi, Atlas Copco, TetraPak, Tele2, H&M, Husqvarna, ITT Water & Wastewater, Teosol AB, Absolut Vodka and many more.
Sara has a master’s degree in teaching Swedish as a Second Language and a bachelor’s degree in Pedagogy. She is also a certified SWEDEX examiner and trained in the evaluation of Swedish language skills of foreign healthcare professionals (Validering av svenska för vården).

Hannah Goldring - from Göteborg
Hannah started teaching for The Swedish Teacher in February 2014. She is a native Swedish speaker who lives in Göteborg. Hannah is fluent in Danish, and also speaks Norwegian, English, Dutch, German and French.
Hannah has many years experience of teaching Swedish as a Foreign Language at Berlitz and as a private tutor. Since 2008 she also works as a translator and proofreader.
Hannah is an accredited teacher and graduated from University of Gothenburg (Göteborgs universitet) in 2006.

Margaretha Skeffington - from Laholm
Margaretha started teaching for The Swedish Teacher in 2011. She is a native Swedish speaker from Umeå, and currently lives in Laholm in the south of Sweden.
Margaretha holds a Bachelor’s degree in Swedish as a Second Language from Uppsala University (2009 – 2012) and earned her teacher certification (SFI-teacher) at Högskolan i Gävle. Margaretha is also a certified TEFL-teacher.
Margaretha has over ten years experience of teaching Swedish as a Second language and has worked for Folkuniversitetet Uppsala, The Swedish teacher and, Uppsala University. Since 2017 she is working as SFI-teacher in Laholm.

Hannah Goldring - from Göteborg
Hannah started teaching for The Swedish Teacher in February 2014. She is a native Swedish speaker who lives in Göteborg. Hannah is fluent in Danish, and also speaks Norwegian, English, Dutch, German and French.

Christian Odenahl - from Göteborg
Christian started teaching for The Swedish Teacher in February 2014. He is a native Swedish speaker who lives in Prague and speaks English, German, Spanish, and Czech.
Christian is a language professional and linguist with over ten years of experience of teaching Swedish as a Second Language/Foreign Language, as well as English and Spanish. He has many years of experience of teaching Swedish as a Foreign Language for Berlitz in Göteborg and Prague.
Christian also has experience of translation, interpreting, and voice-over.

Jeanette Morales - from Skara
Jeanette started teaching for The Swedish Teacher in November 2016. She is a native Swedish speaker from Skara, who currently lives in Birmingham, UK.
Jeanette is an accredited teacher in Swedish, Swedish as a Second Language, and English, and graduated from Högskolan Väst (University College West, Trollhätan). Jeanette has over ten years experience of teaching teenagers in upper secondary school (gymnasium) as well as adults. She has taught students of all levels, from beginners to advanced, and especially enjoys working with Swedish writing skills.
Besides teaching, Jeanette works as a translator and proofreader.

Erica Tamm - from Uddevalla
Erica started teaching for The Swedish Teacher in April 2017. She is a native Swedish speaker from Uddevalla, who currently lives in Sydney. Erica speaks Swedish and English.
Erica studied Swedish at Linnaeus University (Linnéuniversitetet) in Växjö (2015 – 2016) and Advanced English at Ability College in Sydney. Currently Erica is studying Swedish as a Second Language at Högskolan Väst (West College).
Erica has several years experience of working as a substitute teacher in preschools in Gothenburg (Göteborg), as a youth group leader as well as a mathematics tutor. Her great people skills have also come in handy when working at the Tourist Office of Gothenburg. In Sydney, she has also taught Swedish as a Foreign language to children.

Olivia Karlsson - from Borås
Olivia started teaching for The Swedish Teacher in April 2018. She is a native Swedish speaker who lives in Borås.
Olivia is an accredited teacher in Swedish, Swedish as a Second Language, English and, Mathematics. She graduated from Högskolan i Borås (University of Borås) in June 2016. She has also studied English in Coventry, England as well as in Boston, Massachusetts. Olivia has several years experience of teaching Swedish and Swedish as a Second Language both at SFI (Svenska för invandrare) and Adult education (Vuxenutbildningen). She currently works as a teacher with students in grade 4. She teaches Swedish, English, Math and, Arts.

Lotta Lantz - from Stockholm
Lotta started teaching for The Swedish Teacher in April 2018. She is a native Swedish speaker with many years of professional experience of Second language acquisition. Lotta holds a Bachelors Degree in Communication and Media (University of California, San Diego) and currently lives in San Diego, California and speaks English and, Spanish.
Lotta is a contributor to the Swedish School of San Diego where she taught Swedish and facilitated learning for children between ages of 6-12 years old with Swedish heritage and background. Lotta participated in developing core curriculum that followed the Swedish educational system guidelines and requirements.
Lotta also is since 2014 working as Learning Coordinator of Homework Center City of San Diego Public Library as well as an independent tutor. Her students age range from elementary school to high school, and college.

Anton Bengtsson - from Malmö
Anton started teaching for The Swedish Teacher in November 2018. He is a native Swedish speaker who lives in Uppsala, but spends some parts of the year in Wisconsin, the US.
Besides his studies in Swedish as a Second Language, Swedish, English and Social Studies, Anton teaches Swedish as a Foreign Language. His work for Folkuniversitetet in Stockholm, as well as Hermods in Uppsala, has given him plenty of experience with teaching Swedish at various levels and with students of different backgrounds. Anton has also worked as a grammar mentor for Teacher Trainee students at Uppsala University.
As a teacher in English and Social Studies, Anton is very interested in the English language and loves discussions (not only about society). Since he is originally from Malmö, Anton can also teach students in understanding the Swedish dialect called Scanian (skånska).

Cecilia Yrttiaho - from Närpes
Cecilia is a native Swedish speaker from Närpes, Finland. She has been teaching teenagers and adults for more than ten years, mostly in subjects like business administration, entrepreneurship, customer service and sales.
Cecilia holds a Master´s Degrees in Entrepreneurship and Management (Swedish School of Economics and Business), General Education (Åbo Akademi University) and Developmental Psychology (also Åbo Akademi University). She is an accredited teacher and has studied educational leadership as well.
The main areas of Cecilia’s expertise are in business administration, customer service and sales. She is also very enthusiastic about teaching written and oral presentation skills and can help you prepare for job applications, job interviews and general presentations.

Emma Wall - from Stockholm
Emma is a native Swedish speaker from Stockholm. She has several years experience of teaching Swedish as a foreign language for adults in Sweden at Hermods and Niketo, where she developed curriculums, lecture plans, and tests. She also has experience teaching children in upper elementary school and pre-school (förskola), as well as setting up non-formal language education for newcomers in Greece.
Emma holds a Master’s Degree from Uppsala University, has taken an additional certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and extracurricular studies in student counseling and Swedish grammar and phonetics. She has thirteen years of experience working with people for people, including working with and manage intercultural teams, and speaks fluent English and basic Spanish, German, and Arabic.

Sanna Nornberg - from Nyköping
Sanna started teaching for The Swedish Teacher in 2020. She is a native Swedish speaker from Nyköping and currently lives in Malta.
Sanna is an accredited teacher in Swedish, Swedish as a Second Language, and English. She graduated from Linköpings universitet (Linköping University) in 2004. She has also studied Special Education at Uppsala universitet (Uppsala University) as well as Web Development at NTI-skolan, and Psychology at Malmö högskola.
Sanna has worked as a teacher since 2004, teaching Swedish, Swedish as a second language, English as well as Special education (specialpedagogik) in school year 4-9. Since 2019, Sanna has also taught Swedish as a second language online to adults.

Lena Hoff- from Göteborg
Lena started teaching for The Swedish Teacher in November 2020. She is a native Swedish speaker from Göteborg, who currently lives in Athens, Greece. Lena is fluent in Danish, and also speaks English and Greek.
Lena has many years of experience teaching Swedish, and Danish, as a foreign language to adults. Since 2010, she is giving one-to-one lessons but is also teaching at Siountri School of Languages and at National and Kapodistrian University, both in Athens. Lena has also worked as a translator and teacher of Modern Greek grammar and literature (The Norwegian Institute at Athens).
Lena holds a Bachelor’s degree in Swedish as a Second language, Swedish and Danish at Stockholm University and Linneaus University. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Modern Greek Studies and English as well as a Ph.D. degree in Modern Greek Studies.
