The Teachers

Meet the Swedish Teachers

All our teachers have a university education in teaching Swedish or Swedish as a second/foreign language. They also have several years of professional experience of teaching Swedish as a foreign language and enjoy teaching on all levels. Our youngest student was 12 years old and our oldest 75.

All the teachers have a personal experience of living in bilingual families, as well as of living abroad and can give you valuable cultural guidance when you’re new in Sweden or planning to move there. Our teachers always work hard to create a friendly learning atmosphere, so you can relax and get the most out of your lessons.

"Jag ser alltid fram emot mina lektioner med Sara. Redan från början kände jag mig mer självsäker. Hon är tålmodig, professionell och snäll.

Something I really appreciate about Sara is her ability to go off subject a little but still be able to bring it back to the lesson. She is nice to talk to and I always feel like I am making progress or achieving something. I would happily recommend The Swedish Teacher to anyone I know in a similar position as myself."

"I found Sara Hörberg to be a wonderful teacher. I really appreciated Sara because she helped me and encourage me to get my C1. Although we worked together in short time but it was so useful and valuable. I got a big help in writing, formulating essay and speaking which I could cope with C1. She provides good method to learn Swedish which was so efficient for me and knows how to adapt the lessons base on students necessities. Classes are interesting and exciting and humorous. She explains the concepts very well and is able to explain in more than one way if one don't understand right away."

"In the fall 2017, I took a batch of 10 lessons to prepare myself for the Tisus test. Now, after passing the test and getting through the first month of university classes at SLU, I just wanted to compliment the great service and high quality teaching I received from mostly Hannah, but also Jeanette. As a person with a Swedish background who has lived his entire adult life in America, I was in a time crunch and had a lot to learn before taking the test. Both Hannah and Jeanette not only prepared me really well, but also made it fun and engaging. I can't thank them enough for all their help and expertise."
Erik Palm
"I worked with Hannah for months in preparation for the TISUS test, which I then passed! She is extremely capable and knowledgeable. She clarifies tricky concepts very well and introduces additional insights into Swedish that deepen my knowledge and ability. She was also very flexible, willing to change up our coursework to adapt to wherever I felt weakest in preparation for the exam. Now that I have finished the test. I plan to meet with her for even more lessons before I begin my university studies!"

Besides teaching, Jeanette works as a translator and proofreader.

"I have really been learning a lot from my lessons with Jeanette. I appreciate that she is patient and flexible with me, and, with her help, I have been much better able to speak and listen when I am in Sweden. Before my last trip, Swedes would always change to English immediately when I tried to speak Swedish. Jeanette worked a lot with me on pronunciation and day-to-day Swedish, so when I visited Sweden in January, people spoke to me in Swedish, and on one occasion, when I asked a mobile phone representative to switch to English, he asked me why we needed to speak in English! As an educator myself, I highly recommend The Swedish Teacher. Their high-quality instruction is customized to each person’s needs and is more affordable than most person-to-person services. I live in the U.S. and have found The Swedish Teacher to be the best available instruction in the U.S. market."

She has taught students of all levels, from beginners to advanced, and especially enjoys working with Swedish writing skills.

I live in the U.S. and have found The Swedish Teacher to be the best available instruction in the U.S. market."
