Skatteverket (Swedish tax authority)

Skatteverket does not only take care of taxes being paid; its other main function is the population register. When you have received your residence permit and moved to Sweden, you should as soon as possible visit Skatteverket to get your “personnummer” (personal identity number), which you will need to open a bank account, visit the doctor, etc.

Socialstyrelsen (The National Board of Health and Welfare)

Migrationsverket (Board of Migration)

If you are planning on moving to Sweden, you need to contact Migrationsverket. On their website, you can find all information you need about visas and residence permits.

In Stockholm, there is an organization called Internationella Bekantskaper. Check them out! You will find new friends and plenty of opportunities to practice Swedish.
